Our 3rd edition Limited Artist Series graphic is a special pull from our archival vault! This graphic is a digital rendering of a watercolor scene depicting Philadelphia along the Delaware River, painted by Cape May County native Dr. John Ludlam Smith in 1811. Smith painted this scene, along with several others, in his personal surveyor's geometry book which is now preserved in our archival vault.
John L. Smith was born in Goshen, in 1790, and died in 1824. He is buried in the Union Cemetery in South Dennis. He was married to Tabitha Townsend, daughter of David Townsend, Jr. John practiced medicine in the Pennsylvania Hospital (built 1755) in 1816 and in the New York Hospital in 1817.
